Last min. gig just came in! Sun, April8th, 3:30-6:30 @ The Rex, 194 Queen West. Come on down and have a pint!
Thank you Katie Malloch! -
We were surprised and happy to learn that Katie Malloch used a track off of our CD during her appearance on the CBC Radio show Shift, hosted by Tom Allen! Katie was asked to compile four great tunes that say a lot about her career, her taste, and her generosity. One of those tunes was Tim’s “Crosstalk”. Also on the link is the video that CBC shot of us last December at the Rex. Check the link!
Our gig from Dec.14th at The Rex was recorded and filmed by CBC. You can check out the videos either on our Sights & Sounds page or view each of the tunes here:
See You Next Thursday
Also, don’t forget our gig on Monday March 5th at the Trane Studio! The wonderful drummer Joel Haynes will be in the drum chair, so it’s bound to be swinging… It’s a live recording too!
The date for this gig is now Monday march 5th! Visit the Trane website (link below) for more details!
Getting some chicken scratch ready for a live recording in March! Charts will be printed, torn up, and rebuilt in preparation for the Trane studio, March 4th. Check their calendar for the exact time: http://www.tranestudio.com/category/events/?eventDisplay=month
Come on down for a great Sunday evening of jazz!
Well, the gig on Dec. 14th was a lot of fun! Barry Elmes was on fire, the horns sounded great, rhythm section as well! It was a bit stressful having cameras around, more mics than usual, but it had a great time anyways! Thanks to The Rex for having us and being great as usual. Can’t wait to see the film footage and hear the recording!
We are getting ready for our next gig… and a good one it shall be! We have a special guest in the form of drummer Barry Elmes! Barry, as many of you may know, is a Canadian jazz icon who has performed with many of the best jazz musicians in the world. A couple of us were introduced to his music and drumming some fifteen years ago on Vancouver Island when we were just starting out in this crazy world of jazz. We loved his group and playing back then, and still do today. Ryan and Alex had a chance to play with Barry on a weekly basis in 2010, and since then wanted to incorporate Barry into one of their groups.
Come and check us out on Wednesday, December 14th at The Rex Hotel, 194 Queen St. West. CBC will be recording AND filming our performance!
We have a gig on July 18th at The Rex Hotel, 194 Queen St. West at 9:30pm. Come on out to hear the band and cool off from the oppressive heat! We’ll be playing two sets!
Hello everyone out in e-land,
It’s been a few weeks since The Cookers returned from the tour! We’ve been laying low and readjusting our bodies normal sleep patterns and familiar surroundings…
We have another show on the horizon in Toronto on June 2nd at The Rex Hotel at 6:30pm. We will be playing two sets of music, so come on down if you can, the cover charge is P.W.Y.C. You can also purchase our just-released CD from us, or if you miss the opportunity to interact with one the bandmates, you can buy it through CDbaby: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/cookers (we sold out of the CDbaby stock, but more should be there by the time the gig rolls around).
Anyways, come on down, listen to some music, have a pint and enjoy the (knock, knock) good weather!
The tour is done! We are happy to be home and (besides Tim) cheering for the Vancouver Canucks. Being on the road for a month is hard work, and we can’t fathom how much harder it would be being out for months on end like some groups in the past and today. Thanks from The Cookers to the Canada Council for the Arts for making this possible, family for helping us wherever possible, all the clubs (Yardbird, Beat Niq, Cellar, Hermann’s, Diner Rendezvous) for all the great audiences, Jesse Mackay for the artwork, and apologies to anyone we missed. Keep an eye out for us in the future!
Just finished playing the Yardbird Suite! Great show, amazing audience. Eldar Djangirov is playing now and he sounds awesome! Two more days and we are home.
